About this course
This course equips leaders to use data not simply as a tool for assessment, but as a leadership instrument for creating understanding, building alignment, overcoming resistance, and driving meaningful institutional change. Participants explore a range of quantitative and qualitative approaches, including institutional data, surveys, listening sessions, focus groups, organizational audits, and lived-experience research, while learning how to move from information to insight and from insight to action. The course emphasizes the power of combining quantitative evidence, qualitative insight, and human story to make complex challenges visible and actionable, particularly when stakeholders hold different assumptions, priorities, or levels of support. Participants learn to identify meaningful patterns and disparities, ask better questions, simplify complex findings, connect evidence to mission and shared outcomes, and invite stakeholders into interpreting both problems and possible solutions. Through applied cases, the course demonstrates how data can reveal barriers, identify critical success indicators, focus attention on high-impact opportunities, inform theories of change, and align leadership, strategy, resources, and action around measurable outcomes. Ultimately, participants learn that research is an input to change, not the outcome itself: the leadership challenge is to translate evidence into a compelling story, a shared understanding of what matters, and disciplined action that improves opportunity, experience, performance, and success.
