About Our Founder & Chief Catalyst,
Dr. Damon A. Williams

Dr. Williams founded and leads the Center for Strategic Diversity Leadership and Social Innovation (CSDLSI) and its sister organization, the National Inclusive Excellence Leadership Academy (NIXLA).

One of the most decorated DEI leaders and scholars of his generation, Dr. Williams has worked with more than 1,000 organizations in the areas of DEI capacity building, organizational climate improvement, youth development, and change management.

Dr. Williams served as the Senior Vice President for Programs, Training, and Youth Development and Chief Education Officer for the world’s largest youth development company, Boys & Girls Clubs of America. While there, he presided over the largest reimagining of youth development programs in BGCA’s 115+-year history, creating the first national STEM learning loss prevention program, digital youth development, LGBTQ, and 21st-century leadership development and college access strategies for nearly four million diverse youth globally.

As Vice Provost, Associate Vice Chancellor, and Chief Diversity Officer at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Dr. Williams founded the Division of Diversity, Equity and Educational Achievement (DDEEA) and launched several initiatives in the areas of faculty diversity recruitment and retention, campus climate improvement, student academic achievement, leadership development, and diversifying STEM. Nearly 15 years later, the DDEEA endures as a best-in class chief diversity officer division in American higher education. Dr. Williams remains a scholar in residence at the university’s Wisconsin Equity and Inclusion (Wei) Laboratory.

Dr. Williams received his PhD from the University of Michigan’s Center for Higher and Post-Secondary Education in Organizational Behavior and Management. He earned his BS and MS degrees from Miami University in the areas of Black World Studies, Sociology, and College Student Personnel Services.

Today he and his team of seasoned DEI researchers, trainers, educators, and consultants work with the world’s leading organizations—including colleges and universities, health care organizations, private companies, nonprofits, K-12 schools, and government agencies—to help them ensure that everyone belongs.
